Part travelogue, part drama documentary, the film is based on the life of St Agatha as recorded in the Lives of Saints (3rd century, Sicily). Fact and fition are used in a consideration of Agatha’s breasts as relics and an examination of the history of relic hunting. THe film is structured like an altarpiece in 5 sections with the idea that the viewer travels from left to right, through the angels and saints until they reach the centrepiece where nuns package Agatha’s breasts in boxes marked left and right.
