Libera me was a film with faces without words, shot in a studio; in La rencontre Cavalier brings together voices without faces. The film, a cross between a home movie and a report à la Depardon, was shot on location with a small Hi-8 camera and recounts Cavalier's love for his new partner. His declaration of love brings the things to life and makes a diary in which thoughts of an encounter are entrusted to a plastic poem. Everything happens on the 'vibrato' of feeling, with a great lust to film. Unlike the sombre Ce repondeur ne prend pas de messages, La rencontre is a clear and light film, the consequence of happiness and the rediscovery of everyday things, nature and life. Objects and limbs (hands) of the lover are observed from as close as possible; the tender discrete gaze of the lover/cineaste makes them almost tangible. (RP)
