In this director’s cut that was rejected by the producer, Rampo gets to hear that his novel The Appearance of Osei has been banned by the censors. Soon afterwards, something happens in an antique shop that is very similar to the contents of Rampo’s banned book. The headlines read: ‘Murder or accident? Husband dies in case.’ The woman accused of murder is the stunning Shizuko, and Rampo instantly falls in love with her. Rampo’s publisher Yokozimo, later finds an old newspaper clipping in which a girl is reported to have been found in a cellar ten days after her parents committed suicide. The little girl turns out to be Shizuko. Rampo decides to rewrite his novel and tries to come to terms with evens.
