The fantastic animation film provides us with a curious and mythical picture of a Europe inhabited by tragic heroes and lost loves who look as if they have stepped out of a film noir. Miyazaki practices here the genre of the cartoon film for adults. His love for red planes has become an obsession and his sympathy with the melancholy hero is boundless. The hero is the dauntless bounty-hunter Porco Rosso, who can become a pig if he hides his identity better. He prefers not to kill, but when it comes to the pirates everyone fears... The story starts with the arrival of the scoundrel Donald Curtis, a famous American pilot who wants nothing more than to eliminate Porco Rosso. He does shoot Porco and watches with satisfaction as Porco's plane explodes. Curtis then turns to his other passion: girls. Meanwhile Porco, left for dead, makes preparations for a grand and final air duel.
