George Kuchar is a veteran in the professional use of the home-video idiom. It is probably no exaggeration to state that Kuchar is the most exemplary Home Movie Master. His first 8mm films date from the fifties (when he was in his teens and worked with his brother Mike) and in the decades that followed, he has remained a productive and effective defender of 'small filming'. With friends and neighbours as actors, Mike and George created classic avant-garde horrors such Lust for Ecstacy and Pussy on a Hot Tin Roof.Kuchar's work has always been free, playful and absurd. He has revealed a great fascination with the cult aspects of popular culture and he therefore likes to parody cheaper and more tasteless Hollywood films. The result is even cheaper, even more tasteless and certainly more frank in terms of sex.Alongside parodies on genres, Kuchar's personal activities form a significant theme in his work. Familiar characters are his pets (his dog Bocko and cat Blackie) and also his beloved mother. With a kind of B-movie filter on his camera, he keeps a frank diary.Kuchar selected the following videos from his sizeable oeuvre for his Home Movie Master programme:MOM (1983)Colo (1984)Migration of the Blubberoids (1989)Fill thy Crack with Whiteness (1989)Indian Summer (1991)Glacier Park Video Views (1993)
