Poetic film set in Sète, a French port on the Mediterranean. Gaignaire himself comes from there and for him the film is a declaration of love for the sea, the town and all his compatriots for whom the old customs of the town are more important than modern laws, which were imposed from without.A police commissioner comes to Sète from afar to seek the missing boy Fanfan, who witnessed a crime. Using video images, the policeman, as an outsider like the viewer, forms a picture of the boy who represents the mentality of the local population.
