Leandro Katz’ experience as writer, artist and experimental film-maker is obvious in his first full-length feature film. The cast of the film for instance consists of people who are not in the first instance actors, but writer and film critic (Bérénice Reynaud), poet (Stefan Brecht) or musician (David Darling). The story of the film comprises many mysteries. And because Mirror on the Moon is partially put together from flashbacks, the film starts with the final encounter between Corrigan, a retired archaeologist, and Beatrice, his former colleague. Years earlier both were involved in an expedition which led to the discovery of a Maya city. During excavations they found a large stone with the history of the world engraved on it. But during their stay a rebellion broke out and was suppressed by the army, so they were forced by the skirmishes to abandon their digging and leave their sensational discoveries behind. When at last they were able to return, the mysterious stone had disappeared. The excavation was abandoned and years later the incident seemed to be forgotten. Beatrice however found herself on the trail, a trail which led to mysterious and tragic events. During her return to the place of the old excavations, she tracks down important details, clues and witnesses. But the price is high. Her father and her boyfrienddie. Only Corrigan, whom she has not seen since the excavations years ago, could possibly possess the key to solving the secret.
