Land where my fathers died
A young black woman from New York, Aziya (played by the director), visits with her boyfriend Malcolm the place they came from: a dormitory town somewhere in the Mid-West of the United States. They are about to split up. After a stay with her mother, Aziya also wants to visit her father, who she hardly knows. Slowly but surely it becomes apparent that her father is an alcoholic and has no future.Land Where My Fathers Died shows in a clear and measured style the conflicts which emerge from the confrontations within a family. The visit to Aziya’s father interferes in the relationship between Malcolm and Aziya.Director Daresha about her motives: ‘Being the child of an alcoholic, I had a lot of reservations about doing this film because I didn’t want to present a negative image of a black man as an alcoholic in a vacuum. Every time I talked to someone and told them about it, every single person was the child of an alcoholic without exception.’
