Rotterdam Lab

Rotterdam Lab is a training workshop for producers at the start of their career, with the aim of offering emerging international professionals the means to build and develop their network. Now approaching its 25th edition, this five-day ride of panel sessions, round-tables, and networking events provides a golden opportunity for participants to refine their (co)producing craft and expand their international network.

At the heart of Rotterdam Lab is the opportunity for informal networking opportunities between the attending producers that create lasting connections and networks. Screenwriter and script consultant David Pope is the adviser to the Rotterdam Lab programme and moderates all activities during the training workshop.

Participants are nominated to attend by IFFR Pro’s partner organisation. For the second year running, an open call was launched for the 2025 edition.

Interview with Rotterdam Lab graduate Aiko Masubuchi on Happyend

Masubichi was one of two Rotterdam Lab alumni producers on Neo Sora’s near-future high school drama Happyend, working alongside collaborator and 2023 graduate Albert Tholen. Hear what she had to say about her experience.

Who can attend Rotterdam Lab?

The majority of participants are nominated to attend by IFFR Pro’s partner organisations.

The participants for Rotterdam Lab are emerging producers, who should have produced at least one or two short films, and not more than two feature films. These conditions are set to make sure that the level of the group is balanced and that the producers are more or less in the same stage of building their career.

Open call for the 2025 edition

Aiming to maximise the plurality of voices, backgrounds and experiences in the Rotterdam Lab cohort, an open call was launched ahead of the 2025 edition. The deadline is 21 October.
