IFFR Filmclub x RSCW
Discover on August 30 and 31 the world of Rotterdam’s urban scene during the Rotterdam Street Culture Week Festival!

Saturday 30 August
Bubbling Baby (Sharine Rijsenburg, 2025)
Bubbling music is one of the most spirited manifestations of Caribbean-Dutch cultural heritage. The propulsive and highly danceable music symbolises freedom, power and ownership of the diaspora. This vibrant documentary celebrates bubbling’s storied history, tracing the historic and cultural roots of the club music, while exploring the contemporary scene that keeps pushing the envelope. By explicitly forefronting the female voices of bubbling, filmmaker Sharine Rijsenburg composes a joyful and feminist symphony of a musical scene that perfectly embodies an emancipated way of living.
Boxing Against the Binary (Esmée van Loon, 2025)
“Every body can exercise and move,” a member of Rotterdam-based Queer Gym explains; however, not every person feels comfortable in typical sports environments that often hone in on heteronormative beauty ideals and fitness aspirations. That’s why Romy started Queer Gym, a safe space in Rotterdam, where queer folk can comfortably enjoy sports and exercise. Through intimate conversations with members, trainers and owner Romy, Esmée van Loon’s endearing portrait reveals a true physical need for spaces where queer communities can discover their own strengths.
