IFFR Filmclub x Queer Gym

Enjoy an evening filled with queer joy and queer film tips from our upcoming festival edition on Friday 10 January at Queer Gym with the fourth edition of the IFFR Filmclub!

We all know those comfy gym clothes end up more often used for binge-watching films at home during winter than workouts. On Friday 10 January 2025, IFFR Filmclub, Queer Gym, and Roffa mon Amour invite you to attend a special presentation of queer titles from the upcoming edition of IFFR followed by a screening of IFFR and Roffa mon Amour 2024 hit Levante, a poignant and unapologetic portrayal of resilience and friendship as a woman part of a queer volleyball team’s bodily autonomy is under attack.

Grab your most comfy sweatpants and come to be inspired by our upcoming programme and the moving queer stories represented in it.

IFFR, Queer Gym, and Roffa mon Amour programmers will host the evening.

Levante, Liliah Halla, Brazil, 2023 (92’)

Sofia is the breakout star of her high-school volleyball team. She’s also just discovered she’s pregnant. In a country where abortion is illegal, her choices seem limited – particularly so when an abortion clinic in her economically impoverished neighbourhood is actually run by right-wing activists in an attempt to dissuade women and girls from seeking one. Sofia’s mother was Uruguayan, but she doesn’t have the money to travel, and that would mean telling her father about the situation. But supporting her at every step is Sofia’s team, a non-binary and female-identifying group, including love interest Bel.

Municipal community health services participate in Queer Gym by providing STI testing and individual consultations for theQueer Gym community members.

About the IFFR Filmclub

Filmclub is a new initiative of IFFR, currently in the pilot phase, where (future) film lovers, young filmmakers and creatives come together to watch films and exchange interests. The idea is that the Filmclub will take place biweekly at various locations throughout Rotterdam, where a mix of (inter)national films, both new and true classics, will be shown in a relaxed setting in combination with discussions, workshops or parties. Whether you are discovering cinema for the first time or are already well on your way as a filmmaker, the Filmclub is a place to get inspired, network or just come and watch a film. The club works together with local communities throughout Rotterdam.

Entrance: Free, but reservation required.
