IFFR Filmclub x Dokhuis

During this edition of the IFFR x Dokhuis Film Club, we will be screening the film by the winner of the RTM Pitch 2025. Will you be joining us to watch Bubbling Baby by Sharine Rijsenburg on 7 November?

Bubbling Baby (Sharine Rijsenburg, 2025)
Bubbling music is one of the most spirited manifestations of Caribbean-Dutch cultural heritage. The propulsive and highly danceable music symbolises freedom, power and ownership of the diaspora. This vibrant documentary celebrates bubbling’s storied history, tracing the historic and cultural roots of the club music, while exploring the contemporary scene that keeps pushing the envelope. By explicitly forefronting the female voices of bubbling, filmmaker Sharine Rijsenburg composes a joyful and feminist symphony of a musical scene that perfectly embodies an emancipated way of living.

I Spit Myself Onto A Page (Alka Sadat, 2023)
A short film directed by Alka Sadat visualizing the poetic journey of Somaia Ramish from Afghanistan to the Netherlands.

Ik ben nieuw – Aflevering 3: Dans naar morgen (Nour Alkheder, 2024)
When she was seven, Syrian Nay heard K-pop for the first time. Now she is 14 and a newcomer in the Netherlands, hoping that her TikTok videos will be a prelude to her dance career.

Episode from the five-part youth documentary series Ik ben nieuw (I am new), created by filmmakers sharing a refugee history with the children they follow and who are newcomers. Like, in this debut, the Syrian Nay, who was seven when she heard K-pop for the first time in Syria. Today, she lives in Bolsward, Netherlands and dreams of a career in dance. To shoot her TikTok videos, the dining table has to move aside, because the family lives in a rather cramped house. But can she also show her new environment who the real Nay is?

  • About the IFFR Filmclub

Filmclub is a new initiative of IFFR, currently in the pilot phase, where (future) film lovers, young filmmakers and creatives come together to watch films and exchange interests. The idea is that the Filmclub will take place biweekly at various locations throughout Rotterdam, where a mix of (inter)national films, both new and true classics, will be shown in a relaxed setting in combination with discussions, workshops or parties. Whether you are discovering cinema for the first time or are already well on your way as a filmmaker, the Filmclub is a place to get inspired, network or just come and watch a film. The club works together with local communities throughout Rotterdam.

  • About Film at Dokhuis

Dokhuis offers a unique space where people can come together to watch and create films. They believe cinema possesses the transformative power to help us explore not only the world around us but also the depths of our own selves.
