IFFR Filmclub x Dokhuis
Join us Friday 6 June, for the latest edition of IFFR x Dokhuis, as we show three films shot in Rotterdam, made by Rotterdam filmmakers and each with a focus on performance art.

In this latest edition of IFFR Filmclub x Dokhuis, we are screening three films that each, in their own way, use performance art to question reality. The makers will join us after the screening for a discussion about their work.
The films are subtitled in English, and the post-screening discussion will be held in English.
About the films
Turtle Walk (Hosein Danesh, 2020)
In this performance-based video, creator Danesh crosses the busy West Kruiskade in Rotterdam extremely slowly (as slow as a turtle). How do fellow road users respond to this?
Pleasant Hell (Suzanne Koopstra, 2023)
A short documentary about a young artist and his friends in Rotterdam who connect through music and creativity as they wander through a life that they experience as a pleasant hell. Filmmaker Suzanne Koopstra pairs contemplative camera work with innovative production design, enabling her to shed light on her characters’ inner worlds.
The Battle of Empty Stomachs (Diana Al-Halabi, 2024)
Based on research and interviews with both Palestinian hunger strikers and asylum seekers, this absurdist yet realist film stages a dialogue between the director in her mother tongue that centres on a single question: what do we know about hunger? Filmmaker Diana Al-Halabi won the RTM Pitch Prize at IFFR 2023, which allowed her to realise this film.
About IFFR Filmclub
Filmclub is a new initiative of IFFR, currently in the pilot phase, where (future) film lovers, young filmmakers and creatives come together to watch films and exchange interests. The idea is that the Filmclub will take place biweekly at various locations throughout Rotterdam, where a mix of (inter)national films, both new and true classics, will be shown in a relaxed setting in combination with discussions, workshops or parties. Whether you are discovering cinema for the first time or are already well on your way as a filmmaker, the Filmclub is a place to get inspired, network or just come and watch a film. The club works together with local communities throughout Rotterdam.
About Film in Dokhuis
Dokhuis offers a unique space where people can come together to watch and create films. They believe cinema possesses the transformative power to help us explore not only the world around us but also the depths of our own selves. It serves as a dynamic medium for fostering meaningful dialogue and connection.
Starting in 2025, Dokhuis will host a monthly film evening on the first Friday of every month, as part of the IFFR Filmclub.
Tickets are free (reservation is required)
