Radical experimental film maker, musician/composer, sound artist, teacher and writer Tony Conrad brings a spoken presentation of his recent work on the ‘window’. This presentation is based on two earlier works: Window - a single roll of Super8 film from around 1970 that Conrad shot of a window set that he built, convinced at the time that the window was a rich metaphor for the cinema image in general; and Second, on video documentation of a performance, Window Enactment, that Conrad offered at Greene Naftali Gallery in New York in summer 2007, at the occasion of the second Performa - biennial of new visual art performance. Old and new media, and a live discussion, with Tony Conrad, concerning new theories of cinetecture.
Also premièring at the IFFR 08 is the documentary Tony Conrad - DreaMinimalist by Marie Losier (USA, 2008). In this ‘dream portrait’ we discover Conrad, one of the pioneers of New York minimalism, playing in his studio with costumes and wigs, practicing his violin, cooking pickled films, performing at The Whitney Biennial in NYC and more!
