Mayis Rukel

Mayis RUKEL (1992, Turkey) is an artist, writer and filmmaker based in Rotterdam. His work explores magical research, liberatory remembering and decolonial archival methodologies, often engaging with ghosts, memory and alternative ways of knowing. Rukel began making films at the age of 16 and has since developed a multidisciplinary practice spanning moving image, writing and multimedia installation. He holds a BFA in Moving Image from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and an MFA from the Sandberg Institute. His short fiction film The Pendant (2020) was featured at the Nederlands Film Festival. Rukel has received the GRA Award for Autonomous Arts and the Mondriaan Fonds Kunstenaar Start, and his work has been discussed in Dutch and international art and film publications.
