VHS Community Programme

From the 1980s until their decline in the 2010s, video shops were the everyday homes for film culture: places where anyone and everyone could rent a film. Our Focus programme Hold Video in Your Hands invites audiences to rediscover the various cultures that grew from video shops – both on and off screen.
From Thursday 6 to Saturday 8 February the community aspect of VHS culture will be revived by gathering around the VHS player at WORM, where collectors will interchange highlights from their collections with international video fans and experts of the low-res format. Expect anything from home videos to obscure cult classics. Bring your own tape or just come take a peek into the past.
We are looking for highlights from your collections which can include weddings, taped football matches or concerts, scenes from an obscure video your friend passed on, etc. We don’t have space to programme entire features but you would be very welcome to introduce your anecdotes alongside the best scenes.
Use this form if you would like to bring your own VHS tape or video excerpt to share it with others! The deadline to fill in the from is Friday 24 January.
