Suman Mukhopadhyay

Suman MUKHOPADHYAY (1966, India) is an Indian director and writer of film and theatre. Prior to his filmmaking career, he was a leading figure in the Bengali stage scene, winning awards from the Indian Drama Academy and West Bengal Theatre Academy. Apart from his directorial career in cinema and theatre, Suman Mukhopadhyay has been an active and influential figure in the Indian cultural sphere. His first feature film, Herbert (2005), won the National Award for Best Bengali Film and his second feature, Chaturanga, premiered at the 2008 Montreal World Film Festival and went on to be screened at 36 national and international festivals. For this film, he received the Grand Prix award at Bridgefest, the Best Director award at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival and the Golden Palm at Mexico International Film Festival.
