Sophia Bulgakova

Sophia BULGAKOVA (Ukraine, 1997) is an art scientist, interdisciplinary artist and activist currently based in The Netherlands. She works with art, technology and contemporary social structures, focusing on the relationship between cultural identities, perception and imagination. Through various censorial inputs in her installations and performances, she engages viewers, impacting their ways of perceiving reality and exploring new possibilities beyond it. Sophia’s practice explores how technological advancements intersect with cultural traditions and social issues. Her works incorporate cutting-edge innovations such as various projection techniques, interactive soundscapes, AI and XR technologies to create embodied immersive experiences that challenge conventional narratives. Sophia studied sculpture in Kyiv and then got a foundation diploma in Photography and Time-Based Media at the University of the Arts London in the UK. After that, she graduated from the Art Science Interfaculty at the Royal Academy of Art and Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, the Netherlands. Her works have been exhibited at a variety of festivals and institutions including CTM Festival, FIBER Festival, Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Sonic Acts Festival, Baltan Laboratories, Mediamatic, and Ningbo City Exhibition Hall.
