Sibil Çekmen

Sibil ÇEKMEN (1983, Turkey) is an İstanbul-based director. She graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University, where she obtained her degree in the Cinema-TV Department, and she later received her MA in Film Studies from Université Lumière Lyon 2. There she also completed her PhD, with her doctoral dissertation titled “The Emergence and Evolution of Documentary Cinema of Resistance in Turkey (2003-2017)”. Sibil has worked as a reporter in the weekly political Armenian-Turkish Agos newspaper, as a project assistant at Anadolu Kültür and as an editor and anchorwoman on İMC TV. She currently teaches courses titled “Cinema and Borders”, “Creative Political Documentary” and “Cultural Mediation” and has been a consultant on documentary projects since 2020.
