Shu Lea Cheang
Shu Lea CHEANG (1954, Taiwan) is a Taiwanese-American artist and filmmaker. She holds a BA in History from the National Taiwan University and an MA in Cinema Studies from New York University. Her career as a multimedia and new-media artist began in the 1980s. In her work, she engages in genre bending gender hacking practices. Brandon (1999) established her as net art pioneer, as it was the first web art commissioned and collected by Guggenheim Museum, New York. Cheang represented Taiwan at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019, being the first woman to represent Taiwan with a solo-exhibition.
