Mouly Surya

Mouly SURYA (1980, Indonesia) earned her BA in Media and Literature from Swinburne University, after which she attended Bond University for an MA in Film and Television. Her acclaimed debut psychological thriller film Fiksi (2008) won many awards, including Best Director at Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFEST) 2008. Her second feature, What They Don’t Talk About When They Talk About Love (2013), received the NETPAC Award at International Film Festival Rotterdam. Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts (2017) was Surya’s first international co-production and was screened at IFFR in 2017. She makes her comeback at IFFR with The City is a Beautiful Battlefield (2024). Apart from her work as a filmmaker, she has taught a directing class in Jakarta.
