Maureen Selwood

Maureen SELWOOD (USA) is a pioneering filmmaker and visual artist whose work spans animation, installation, drawing and performance. She is an important figure in independent experimental animation, reframing representations of women in art. After earning her MFA at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, she created films such as Odalisque (1980), The Rug (1985) and This Is Just to Say (1987). Later, she expanded the medium with works including Flying Circus: An Imagined Memoir (1995) and Hail Mary (1998). A Rome Prize recipient, she has created installations and animations for theatre, opera and museums. Her work is selected for IFFR 2026’s The Future is NOW focus.
