Maura Delpero

Maura DELPERO (1975) is an Italian director and writer. Maura decided to study film at the Professional Training Center of SICA in Buenos Aires, after first studying literature at University of Bologna. Her first documentaries, Signori Professori/Teachers (2008) and Nadea e Sveta/Nadia and Sveta (2012), premiered at the Torino Film Festival in 2008 and 2012, respectively. For the latter, Delpero was nominated in the Best Documentary Feature category at the 58th David di Donatello awards. Her first feature film Hogar/Maternal (2019), inspired by her own experiences as a teacher in Argentina, premiered at the 72nd Locarno Film Festival, where it received a special mention in the Concorso Internazionale competition and was also awarded the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. In 2021, Maura was nominated for Best New Director at the 66th David di Donatello award ceremony for Maternal. Her film Vermiglio (2024) debuted at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize.
