Katalin Macskássy

Katalin MACSKÁSSY (1942–2008, Hungary) was a filmmaker and recipient of the Béla Balázs Award. She studied at the Academy of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest between 1966 and 1971. She began her career at Pannónia Film Studio as a colourist, illustrator, editor and PR secretary before directing her first short film at the Balázs Béla Studio in 1971. Macskássy created a wide range of animated works, often grounded in sociological, psychological and political themes, as well as fairytale films, educational pieces, documentaries and television productions. She was known for her use of children’s drawings and texts as the basis for her visual and narrative approach. Her work is featured in IFFR 2026 the Future Is NOW focus.
