Karim Aïnouz
Karim AÏNOUZ (1966, Fortaleza, Brazil) studied architecture at the University of Brasilia and cinema studies at New York University. He has worked as an editor and assistant director on several films and co-wrote Walter Salles’ Behind the Sun (2001). Following which he directed a number of short films, making his feature debut in 2002 with Madame Satã which was selected for Un Certain Regard. His film The Silver Cliff (2011) was presented at the Directors’ Fortnight. Aïnouz’ installations have been exhibited at international art venues among including the Whitney Museum of American Art Biennial, the São Paulo Art Biennial and the Sharjah Biennial. Firebrand (2023), starring Jude Law, Alicia Vikander and Sam Riley, is part of the official IFFR 2024 selection.
