Kang Hyeong-cheol

KANG Hyeong-cheol (South Korea) is a filmmaker whose work combines popular appeal with a strong authorial voice. He made his breakthrough with his debut feature Scandal Makers (2008), which became a major box-office success in South Korea. He further consolidated his reputation with Sunny (2011), a nostalgic ensemble film about friendship and memory, followed by the high-stakes gambling drama Tazza: The Hidden Card (2014). His film Swing Kids (2018), set during the Korean War, marked a shift toward a more ambitious and formally bold approach.
