João Pedro Rodrigues
João Pedro RODRIGUES (1966, Portugal) is considered part of the School of Reis film collective. He studied Biology at Lisbon University, after which he attended the Lisbon Film School. Rodrigues’ film debut, Happy Birthday! (1997), premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize. His fifth film The Ornithologist (2016) won him the Grand Prix at the Chéries-Chéris Film Festival in Paris, while his latest film Fogo-Fátuo (2022) was selected for IFFR 2023 in the Harbour programme. An ornithologist himself, he was given his first pair of binoculars at eight years old and ensures he always travels with a pair to observe nature and birds.
