Jörg Buttgereit

Filmmaker and writer Jörg BUTTGEREIT (1963, West Germany) is known for his highly controversial horror exploitation films. Growing up in West Berlin, he enjoyed watching monster movies from as early as the age of four and made his first short film at the age of fourteen. Often suffused with a fascination with death, many of his films have screened at IFFR, including Schramm – Into the Mind of a Serial Killer (1994) and Nekroramantik 2 (1991). The latter was seized by authorities in Munich and Buttgereit was sued, giving him the dubious title of Germany’s most wanted filmmaker. He also writes comic books and works as a film journalist.
