Isabel Sandoval

Isabel SANDOVAL (1982, Philippines) is a filmmaker and actor whose work often explores identity, politics and intimate human relationships. She debuted with Señorita (2011), in which she also played the lead, portraying a trans woman involved in a political campaign while raising a young boy. Her second feature, Aparisyon (2012), examines moral conflict within a cloistered convent during the Marcos dictatorship. With Lingua Franca (2019), Sandoval became the first trans woman of colour to compete at the Venice Film Festival, where the film was nominated for the Queer Lion and Best Film in Venice Days.
