Hermína Týrlová
Hermína TÝRLOVÁ (1900–1993, Czech Republic) was a pioneering animator, screenwriter and director, widely regarded as the mother of Czech animation. Over her long career, she created more than 60 short films for children, working primarily with puppets and stop-motion techniques that became central to Czech animated cinema. Her work was honoured at major international festivals, including Venice, Cannes, Locarno and Mar del Plata, and she received the Czechoslovak State Prize in 1952 as well as a lifetime achievement award at the 1981 Paris International Film Festival. Her work is presented in The Future is NOW focus at IFFR 2026.
