Carlos Reichenbach

Carlos REICHENBACH (1945-2012, Brazil) grew up in São Paulo. He graduated from the Superior School of Cinema in São Luiz and made his first short film Esta Rua tão Augusta in 1967. In 1984, Extremos do prater was nominated for a Golden Kikito for Best Film and won the Special Jury Award at Gramado Film Festival. In the following three years, Reichenbach won three more Kikito awards. In 1985, three of his films were screened at IFFR. The print of a fourth film, O império do desejo (1981), went missing during transport. Dois Córregos (1999) was premiered at Locarno, where it was nominated for a Golden Leopard. His final film Falsa loura was released in 2007. In 2010, Reichenbach received a Golden Unicorn for Career Achievement at Amiens International Film Festival. In 2012, two of his films were screened at IFFR as part of the Signals: The Mouth of Garbage programme, including a new 35mm copy of O império do desejo. That same year, Reichenbach passed away on his 67th birthday.
