Axel Ranisch

Alex RANISCH (1983, Germany) was born in Berlin and shot his first short film when he was 20. In the following years, he estimates he made around eighty short films, taking care of acting, composing, editing and directing. He studied film direction in 2004 at Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf. His first feature film Dicke Mädchen (2012), won several awards, including the Jury Prize at Hamburg International Queer Film Festival. He admits he can never sit still and indulges in his love for classical music and opera when not making films. Ranisch has staged operas in Munich, Stuttgart and Lyon. His most recent film Orphea in Love (2022), has allowed him to combine his love for film and opera.
