Andrea Dorfman

Andrea DORFMAN (1968, Canada) is a filmmaker and animator known for her intimate, hybrid storytelling. She directed the Emmy Award–winning short films Flawed (2010) and Big Mouth (2012), and is a co-creator of the Halifax-based series Blowhard. While she works across short and feature formats, she also creates mini-documentaries for the human rights organisation The Equality Effect. Her debut feature Parsley Days (2000) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2010, she collaborated with poet Tanya Davis on the short How to Be Alone (2010). Their second collaboration, How to Be At Home (2020), a poetic reflection on isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, was selected for TIFF’s Canada’s Top Ten list and is presented in The Future is NOW focus at IFFR 2026.
