Alain Guiraudie

Alain GUIRAUDIE (1964, France) is a French film director and screenwriter with a singular and unique voice in cinema. Guiraudie is a self-taught filmmaker who worked as a night guard and then made a number of often comic shorts and features in which his love for the French countryside is clearly visible. With Stranger by the Lake (2013), he became known internationally, as it was screened at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, winning the award for Best Director. Staying Vertical (2016), which most vividly depicted Guiraudie’s primary subject – freedom – premiered at Cannes.
