A promising job opportunity brings exciting changes to a young couple of creative freelancers living in Santo Domingo. But after they move, unexpected conflicts arise. Can their relationship survive work commitments, fresh interests, growing resentments and financial stress? Or will their paths diverge?
Interior apartamento día begins in soaring happiness: Omar and Nini are young and in love, their relationship is blossoming and full of possibilities. Both work as freelancers, although their jobs do not always align with their creative impulses. But, at the end of the day, they enjoy the simple pleasures of life: taking care of their blind cat, Luna; having dinner with friends; making love unhurriedly. When Nini is offered a job that requires them to move to a fabulous beach house, they don’t think twice. But the change of location also brings challenges to their relationship.
Directed by IFFR regulars and real-life couple Laura Amelia Guzmán and Israel Cárdenas (La hembrita,IFFR 2023; Sand Dollars, IFFR 2015) Interior apartamento día captures the fragility of romantic relationships in times of life changes and economic instability. With an occasional third-person narration that gives the film a fairy-tale quality, touching performances by the two lead actors and delicate cinematography that makes the most of light and colour, the film registers with great sensitivity the little incidents and mood switches that slowly open a breach in the couple’s dynamics.
