Spanning two continents, Collectif Faire-Part is an ensemble of Belgian and Congolese artists exploring Belgium’s colonial history, contemporary power dynamics and collective resistance rooted in decolonisation. The focus programme will consist of an artist talk and two compilation programmes, featuring the world premiere of What we said to Brussels Airlines, alongside other collective and individual works.
This talk, organised for the collective’s first international retrospective, brings together all four members: Paul Shemisi, Anne Reijniers, Rob Jacobs and Nizar Saleh. Together, they will explore:
– A decade of transcontinental collaboration between Brussels and Kinshasa. – The cinematic exploration of colonial statues/monuments in public spaces — those still standing and those removed. – The balance between dissecting the past and speculating about the future. – Travel restrictions and visa challenges for artists – The central anti-colonial ethos/lens driving their work.
The talk will be moderated by Marta Hryniuk, artist, filmmaker and programmer based in Rotterdam and founding member of Rotterdam-based WET film coop.
