When I Came to Your Door
As more and more of the city’s informal settlements are demolished to free up space for urban development projects, the low-income communities of Addis Ababa find themselves displaced within their own city. Scouring through the rubble of a demolished neighbourhood, this mournful film laments the rapidly changing face of Ethiopia’s capital. Friends, families and lovers used to live here. What will become of their dreams, their hopes, their worries? The emotional intensity of this poetic short intensifies when you realise the haunting voice-over is based on a love letter; found between the debris of a place that once was and will not be again.
