A talk between IFFR 2025 Artists in Focus Timoteus Anggawan Kusno and Matthew Lax, in which they will show and give context to clips from their work and discuss their respective artistic practices. Among the topics discussed will be the interplay between history and fiction, how both artists work with and repurpose archival footage, the function of rituals, and how memories and past experiences become engraved in our bodies, channelling themselves through behaviour and physical gestures.
Both the works of Lax and Kusno challenge the dominant and colonial narratives embedded in society, and open up a space for unseen and unheard stories, allowing us to rethink concepts and narratives we may have taken for granted.
