To accompany the Immersive Media programme, a panel of filmmakers and creative industry experts consider the meeting of audiovisual art and technology. Head of creative operations Innovation:Lab Samiha Basel Awad; director, writer and multimedia journalist Charlotte Bruneau; creative director of IFFR Pro Immersive partner 4DR Studios, Steye Hallema; and artist duo Van Sowerwine and Isobel Knowles.
Basel Awad and Innovation:Lab produced Realmbreak Hotel, an immersive experience of VR and live actors. In The Assembly Bruneau explores how the concepts of communication can be converted to create a meaningful ensemble connection without the need for language. Hallema works with the newest media and technology to create magic that places the audience at the centre. Long-term collaborators Knowles and Sowerwine (Night Creatures) create engaging, technologically adventurous, elaborately detailed animated film and immersive installations.
Moderated by filmmaker and previous IFFR Immersive Media programmer Bregje Benecke, this panel will reflect on the sense of place in immersive media, exploring the tension between transportation to virtual realities while being tethered to the bodily here and now. How can immersive technologies enhance storytelling?
