We kick off the 53rd edition of IFFR with a screening of Head South, the festival’s official opening film. Directed by Jonathan Ogilvie, this is a spirited coming-of-age comedy with a sting in its tail, in which a private schoolboy becomes enamoured with post-punk in 1979 Christchurch. In this small town, try too hard to find your edge and you might get more than you bargained for. Following on from his thriller Lone Wolf (2021), which premiered at IFFR, Ogilvie returns to open IFFR 2024 with us on Thursday 25 January.
The 2024 Opening Night is supported by Droom en Daad.
