Local Stories, Global Screens – understanding international film festivals

Join us as we address the fundamental questions surrounding the purpose of film festivals in today's interconnected world.

Who has access to festivals and the films showcased within them? The discussion looks at issues of accessibility, focusing on the divide between the Global South and North. What innovative tools are festivals using to soften the geographic boundaries and engage audiences on a global scale?

Our panel of experts shed light on the challenges and opportunities that arise in fostering a global dialogue on cinema. Sharing insights into strategies that embrace inclusivity across the festival ecosystem.

The panel will include representatives from renowned international film festivals, ingenious filmmakers, curators, and seasoned film market experts.

The panel will consist of:
- Nehad Khader, festival director of BlackStar Film Festival
- Leticia Tonos Paniagua, director, writer and producer (Aire: Just Breathe)
- Nicolas Raffin, Managing Curator, Cinema at Institute of Contemporary Arts
- Dennis Ruh, director of European Film Market, Berlinale
- Mounia Wissinger, Head of Marketing, Distribution and Publicity (Protagonist)

Moderated by festival programmer and creative producer Lesedi Oluko Moche.
