When you join the French Foreign Legion, you agree to be bound by a tight-fitting straightjacket of official procedures and unwritten laws. Your brothers-in-arms become your family. While a group of men of different origins carry out a mission in Mali, the women they leave behind have to build a life for themselves as best they can, within the closed community of the military base.
For this ensemble drama, screenwriter and director Rachel Lang, who herself has served in the armed forces, turned to a setting where the separation of the sexes is still very strict: this elite army unit is open only to men. While newcomer Nika (Ina Marija Bartaitė) tries to reconcile herself with the absence of her ambitious fiancé Vlad at the base, lawyer Céline (Camille Cottin) is making plans of her own. Although, as an officer, her husband Maxime (Louis Garrel) follows all the protocols, she refuses to submit to the expectations of the female community at the base.
