Closing Night: Dragon Inn

Event

IFFR 2022

Join the festive close to IFFR's 51st edition as the 2022 VriendenLoterij Audience Award winner is revealed, followed by our official closing film Dragon Inn: King Hu's 1967 martial arts masterpiece. The film is part of our special jubilee project 25 Encounters, for which cinephiles and filmmakers reflected on cinema, film festivals, and art in its broadest form. Together they have selected a film programme to be released in instalments on IFFR Unleashed directly after the festival, and running until May 2022.

Official Closing Film IFFR 2022: Dragon Inn

The epitome of a 1960s wuxia movie. The storyline and characters in Dragon Inn are very simple, a triumph of King Hu’s distinctive style. The action centres on the comings and goings of a small guesthouse, with particular attention paid to the props and set.

Hu was an expert in creating special effects to show feats of superhuman ability, producing some fast, fierce, and truly jaw-dropping fight scenes. As a martial arts film, Dragon Inn far surpassed anything else in its era, elevating the martial arts genre to a status far beyond what it had ever achieved before.

The closing night (including the film screening) will begin on Sunday 6 February at 19:00, and can be viewed online.
