In the #MeToo drama Nina Wu, director Midi Z and scriptwriter/lead Wu Ke-Xi mercilessly expose the physical and psychological abuse of a young actress when she lands her first major film role. This short, 360-degree making-of video adds an additional layer to this film’s meta-cinema, literally placing viewers mid-set.
The film shows audiences how the actors, including Wu Ke-Xi as Nina, play a scene from the film in the film, the wartime melodrama Spy Love. That film’s crew stands behind you, including its patronising director, who keeps crudely interrupting Nina to provide corrections. On either side stand Midi Z and his crew shooting the shooting of the film in the film. When he interrupts to instruct his actors, he implicitly shows there are other ways of doing so.
