Chaos reigns over an unnamed North African country, probably a former French colony. Kidnappings, robberies, murders and torture are daily occurrences where might is right and no one can be trusted. Rebels, military and police all do as they please. Under these extreme conditions a nameless doctor – played by French-Algerian comedian Ramzy Bedia – struggles to keep doing his job. Despite his drinking problem, his work ethic persists, discovers his girlfriend when she tries to convince him to leave the country.
The film focuses on the doctor as he also falls prey to the powers that be. The mobile camera not only captures the lead, but also the country’s beauty and the contrasting, brutal violence subsuming this fictional, yet simultaneously recognisable society.
