Jules Deelder looks back, touching on almost every aspect of his life: poetry, the war, dope, bespoke suits, jazz and, naturally, Rotterdam. The images, alternating with archival material, are not chronological, but provide an insight into a life in scenes and memories.
We see Deelder debut as a poet in Carré, in the street in London he once lived in, as a jazz DJ during a festival and at a tailor's being measured. The documentary subtly reveals that, over the years, J.A. Deelder has streamlined and perfected his image. But whether he reminisces in a hotel bar with his daughter – and manager – Ari or visits his dentist: Jules Deelder always remains who he is. Director's cut.
