All This Victory

Lebanon, July 2006. Israel is fighting Hezbollah. Even though Marwan is about to emigrate to Canada with his wife, Rana, he wants to take advantage of a brief ceasefire to get his father out of the war zone. But the fighting flares up again. Marwan, who becomes separated from the worried Rana, is forced to take refuge with two friends of his father in one of the few houses still standing. A desperate married couple join them. Suddenly, they hear the voices of Israeli soldiers above them, unaware of their downstairs ‘neighbours’. As bombs rain down, the tension rises.
In his first fiction feature, artist and filmmaker Ahmad Ghossein portrays war as a claustrophobic situation. An oppressively realistic impression in which the soundtrack plays a major role, sparingly interspersed with shards of memory, imagination or hope. Winner of awards, including the Critics’ Week audience award in Venice.
