Artist Talk: Pauline Curnier Jardin

IFFR 2020

Working in painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, performance, film and video, Pauline Curnier Jardin creates ecstatic investigations into the transgressive circus that is human life. In her latest work, Bled Out – Ausgeblutet, Jardin channels Jean Genet's Un chant d'amour, but with post-menopausal women instead of beautiful young men. Blood, wrinkles, flesh and desire confront the viewer, to reclaim the narrative of women often rendered invisible by culture. Jardin will talk about her new work and its context in her oeuvre, as well as elaborate on her practice and background.

Jardin completed a residency at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, was the winner of the Dutch NN Award and in 2019 she won the Preis der Nationalgalerie award in Germany. Her works have been exhibited at festivals, galleries and museums worldwide, including the Venice Biennale, Tate Modern, MIT List Visual Arts Center and Centre George Pompidou.
