In My Room

Novice midlifer Armin is not really getting on in life, not in love and not on a professional level. After a stupid mistake at work (instead of recording soundbites by politicians, he only records the blanks before and after their statement), his life starts going pear-shaped. When his mother also dies, he wakes up next morning as the only survivor in a completely unpopulated world. What now?

Like a contemporary Robinson Crusoe, Armin surrenders to the rhythm of the seasons and lives through his own Genesis story. In the beginning was the word? Ultimately Armin also finds someone to talk to. But the gender roles are not those in the Bible. As a parable, there’s not a moment’s moralising in In My Room. The stylistic approach is down to earth and the spectators are completely free to pose questions themselves.

As part of Critics’ Choice, the screening of Thu 31 Jan, 17:45 will be preceded by a video essay by Luís Azevedo.
