When depressed investigative journalist Thomas (57) jumps into a canal in desperation
on Maundy Thursday, his older sister Doris rushes to his aid. When she isn’t busy
organising aid to refugees, she is always ready to help out her little brother. However,
their younger sister Hannah, who is doing well as a photographer, thinks it would
be better if Thomas were to accept professional help.
Extracts from letters
reveal the deep emotional bond between Doris, Thomas and Hannah; but when
they’re together, there’s a constant risk of conflict. Their interaction, which becomes more volatile in the days following his suicide attempt, is vicious, heart-warming, painful
and funny. Underneath it all lies their Christian upbringing and values such
as self-sacrifice, brotherly love, suffering and guilt, which unavoidably surface
during Easter.
